Directions: This is a focused free write assignment. This is just a PRACTICE assignment. You will write a timed essay.

1.     Before you start writing, format your essay in MLA style.

2.     Next, choose a topic below

·      What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Explain.

·      What are the qualities of a good parent? Explain.

·      Who is your modern day hero or heroine? Explain.

·      Discuss some practical ways in which each of us can help to conserve natural resources.

3.     Take about 5 minutes to brainstorm your topic.

4.     Then, take about 10 minutes to write the essay.

Notes:

·      Time yourself.

·      Make sure that your essay has an introduction with a thesis, topic sentences, transition words, body paragraphs with examples, and a conclusion.

·      It is fine if you don’t finish writing the essay or if you don’t have all of the components. Don’t worry about grammar mistakes.

·      This exercise is just meant to help you think quickly about formulating your ideas and to practice the components of a college essay.
