SUPERVISION CASE STUDY PROJECT

In this course, you will complete a final project on identifying and resolving supervisee/trainee

performance issues in the workplace. The objective of this assignment will be to create a brief

presentation that demonstrates your ability to pinpoint performance issues, identify potential

solutions, and measure the success of an intervention.

For this project, you will either:

• Report a real-life performance issue experienced by yourself or colleagues, or

• Create a hypothetical scenario of a performance issue in the workplace

Using the Performance Diagnostic Checklist – Human Services (provided to you during Module

7), you will analyze a pinpointed supervisee/trainee behavior from your situation/scenario and

determine a potential intervention to implement and strategy for measuring success.

You will present your assessment and intervention process via a 5-10 minute PowerPoint (or

similar) presentation. You may choose to present via recording or live during your Module 9

virtual live class. Both recorded and live presenters must submit their presentation slide decks

in Canvas (preferably in exported PDF format), and both the slide decks and recorded

presentations must be submitted at least 24 hours before the Module 9 live class.

The Annotated Bibliography The first step in data collection is the development of the annotated bibliography. The research concept is to gather all information that is known about the problem so that the current project research can delve into the unknown and new knowledge can be developed. The development project is typically large and detailed. Every resource that can be found is evaluated to determine if it adds knowledge and value to the project. If so, then a short description of that value is noted in the bibliography along with the title, author, etc. The process is repeated until no further pertinent sources can be found. The body of knowledge that is built through the development of the bibliography will indicate where the research can jump off and expand into unknown territory and produce new knowledge. For example, one may find that studies have been completed that show how many people moved out of Gulfport after Hurricane Katrina. However, there may been no studies that examined how many people had moved back. That then becomes a ready-made research project with research questions.Because the annotated bibliography is typically large, it is not contained in the final report itself.

The company was established in 2000 in Huzhou city, Zhejiang province, which is a centre for piano manufacturing and well-known as the piano town of China. With this advantaged location, the company has a read source of good quality piano materials and experienced workers. The company has grown into a medium-sized piano manufacturer with annual production of over 4,000 upright pianos and over 300 grand pianos. It now has 130 employees. As well as achieving both local and national Chinese quality certification, the company achieved International certification ISO 9001, and the production process strictly adheres to this international quality system. The product range includes upright and grand pianos to meet the requirements of different users such as families, schools, bars, hotels and stages. Overall there are over 40 product types depending on model, colour and style of piano. Their products are sold through specialist music retailers and department stores, as well as direct to commercial organisations.Huzhou Piano Company Ltd is well managed, with low overheads and operating costs. Unlike some of their competitors, it has only a modest advertising budget, which has allowed them to offer good value products at very competitive prices. The majority of their models are budget models which account for the largest segment of the market. In the last 10 years, the company’s sales have grown substantially each year as a result of the rapidly growing popularity of plans in China. However in the past three years, sales growth has slowed. This is due to a number of factors, such as increased competition in the domestic market, a growing trend towards better quality imported pianos among higher income families; and increasing competition from digital pianos which are considerably cheaper than traditional pianos. It is expected that in the coming years the domestic market will get even more competitive and this will put greater pressure on profit margins.Huzhou Piano Company Ltd has not actively promoted any of their piano range outside of China; however it has sold a small percentage of its piano production overseas – but only in response to direct enquiries. Their Chief Executive Officer believes that now is the right time to look at international markets as the US and European economies start to recover. He also believes that emerging markets, such as India and Brazil, could possibly follow the Chinese example and experience higher than average demand for pianos as their economies grow and living standards rise.1 Explain and justify the reasons why Huzhou Piano Company Ltd is considering entering international markets.2 Describe a minimum of two sources of information that Huzhou Piano Company Ltd should access before deciding which international markets to enter.3 (a) What are PESTEL factors and why are these important when considering opportunities and threats of entering international markets?(b) Using three PESTEL factors, explain key opportunities and threats that Huzhou Piano Company Ltd should think about when considering entry into international markets. 4 Explain a process that Huzhou Piano Company Ltd could use to select which international markets) to enter.5 Explain the different modes of international market entry available to Huzhou Piano Company Ltd, identifying the advantages and disadvantages of each method. 6 Explain which method of international market entry would be most appropriate for Huzhou Piano Company Ltd, clearly identifying the criteria you have used in making your choice.

Social Media Crisis1Social Media Crisis Brand controversies are prominent on social media. Anyone who is a social media manager will have to deal with these controversies—some of them are the brand manager’s fault, some of them are the brand’s fault, and some of them have many people to blame. Many of these controversies come about because of a brand’s unethical behavior or statements, some come about from lack of attention to potential problems, and a small amount are unforeseeable. No matter how the problem happened or who started it, the brand manager on social media is going to hear about the issue. Thus, it is important for people learning about social media and social media management to study past controversies on social media and think about what to do in those situations. I’d like you to write a 750-1250 word paper on a recent brand controversy and its relationship to social media. You can see examples of social media crises your assigned readings. Each of these controversies resulted in a large amount of social media attention. You may not use Cinnabon’s Carrie Fisher Controversy or adidas’ Boston Marathon Controversy as your controversy, because the example papers are on those topics. To write this paper, you must pick a specific social media brand controversy. You can pick one from the readings in this unit or pick a different controversy if you like. The controversy should be one that started on social media, not that was argued on social media: for instance, the Starbucks Red Cup controversy was argued on social media, but the starting point of the controversy were physical cups, not social media content. The goal of this assignment is to think about a social media controversy from the perspective of a social media manager. How did a brand respond to a social media controversy? Was that response good or bad? What can be learned from the brand’s response to the situation? Student Learning Goal Students will recognize, understand, and analyze the context within which language, information, and knowledge are produced, managed, organized, and disseminated. Students will also integrate previously held beliefs, assumptions, and knowledge with new information and the ideas of others. The Successful Paper Will 1. Introduce a crisis that originated on social media (10%) 2. Explain the brand and what the brand was trying to do that caused the crisis (20%) 3. Explain why people on social media responded the way they did (20%) 4. Explain how the company responded to the crisis (or if they responded) on social media and why they responded the way they did (20%) 5. Analyze whether the company responded well or poorly on social media. If they responded poorly, brainstorm ways that they could have responded better. If they responded well, explain why their response was effective (20%) 6. Turn in a draft on time (10%) Stipulations · 750-1250 words · Images and screenshots are encouraged · Images should be captioned · You should cite in APA articles that you quote, but you do not have to list tweets or posts in your Works Cited page; instead, you should provide in-line links to any social media you cite or include as an image · Works Cited does not count toward word count length · You may send me drafts for my analysis up to 48 hours before the final due date; this will give me time to read it and you time to implement my suggestions · Draft minimum: Your draft should have at least an outline of your thoughts for each section of the paper (sections that correspond to the rubric points, or other organizing scheme that reflects all of the points of the rubric) to get full credit for this paper as a draft. · Due dates for draft and final are listed in Canvas and on the Calendar.Social Media Citation As for citing social media: if you screencap a whole tweet or Facebook post and include that screencap as an image in your proposal, that post is self-evident in its citation. However, if you quote part or all of the language of a social media post in your report prose, you will need to accurately cite that social media. Here is a link detailing how to cite social media in APA.Formatting You must cite sources in APA style; however, you do not have to format the paper in APA style. You can choose to format the paper in APA style (double spaced and indented paragraphs) if you wish.I am also giving you the opportunity to format the paper in business style ( also known as the Block Format) instead of APA format, if you choose. In Block Format, you will use single spacing for your paragraphs, place one blank line between paragraphs, and not indent your paragraphs. Also, whether you use APA or Block Style for your formatting, you do not need a cover page or an abstract–but you do need a citations page. (You don’t need to make a thesis out of this assignment, but I would expect your analysis to include support from at least two outside sources.)
