DISCUSSION 1
As a process of determining the health and health care requirements for a given population or subgroup, a health needs assessment is conducted. Taking into account the needs and health conditions of a specific population or community, a needs assessment is a comprehensive examination of the existing state of healthcare(Bani, 2008).A needs assessment is a methodical procedure used in administration of health services to determine, rank and prioritize a population’s or community’s healthcare requirements. An assessment of patient needs includes gathering data on their health, demographics, surveys, interviews, and current trends in healthcare use, and analyzing the data to discover patterns, differences, and areas that need improvement.(Bani, 2008)
Relevance to Health Service Management
A needs assessment is intended to assist healthcare organizations in operating more efficiently by directing resources where they will be most effective, reducing waste, and minimizing overuse of services. When health care professionals are only aware of the specific demands of the communities in which they work, they are better able to provide patient-centered and culturally sensitive care. (Fleming, 2021)
In conclusion , needs assessments are crucial to efficient administration of health services because they provide the data driven insights required to make wise choices, enhance the standard of healthcare, and make sure that the resources are allocated effectively to study the health care requirements of the population and communities.
DISCUSSION 2
Needs assessments and their application and relevance to health services management involve 3 needs. Unmet need is a need in the population for services that are not currently being provided by the health care system. An unrecognized need is need currently perceived by either the provider or the patient. And lastly, over-met need which is a need in the population for which services are provided in excess of what is required in the community (Fleming, 2021).
Needs assessment is used to gauge the level of need in a population, to determine the degree to which current resources or existing programs meet that need, and to evaluate whether new programs or projects might fill a gap of unmet need. Its relevance to health services management is that it builds partnerships, develops a needs assessment plan, assesses the population affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias, synthesizes data, envisions for the future, and communicates findings for action (Fleming, 2021).
